OUR BUSINESS OWNERS CARE!
This week, I had the pleasure of chatting with Floyd Barton and Kent Helser. Together, they own and operate the UPS store of Desert Hot Springs. However, their contribution to the city goes above and beyond printing and mailboxes.
“We love DHS because when we purchased this store we were received with open arms; we found that the people were so friendly and really welcoming. We have become so involved with this community and desire to continue to promote the great things that DHS has to offer.”
Desert Hot Springs is proving to have become a place not only of great views, amazing home values, and world renown Hot Springs, but a blossoming opportunity for small business owners. The community takes pride in “our” businesses especially when we note that our business owners take pride in our community!
Have I mentioned that they have hearts of gold? Recently they took part of an initiative where UPS Store owners from Riverside and San Bernardino counties united to donate $13,000 in books to the various Boys & Girls Clubs. This was part of The UPS Store annual fundraiser for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. Kent and Floyd knew that by joining efforts together with other owners, they could accomplish much more.
In addition to participating in the county wide literacy program, they are extremely generous to the less fortunate children here in Desert Hot Springs during the holidays. When asked about their toy collection, Floyd commented, “We do collect toys for the Desert Hot Springs Neighborhood Group [Annual Christmas Toy Drive].
It doesn’t end there, these two seem to constantly search for and create ways to share. Here is a brief listing of all of their efforts!
– They work with several non profit organizations and provide discounted printing of their programs, flyers, booklets, etc. Some of them include Family Services, DHSLL, LILAC, Loving all Animals, the (Junior All American) local Football program, and youth soccer.
– They provide cash donations to several organizations
– Sponsored youth in varied youth programs
– They are members of the Elks Club
Lastly, they also help raise money to support the Boys & Girl Scouts and other youth organizations here in the city.
In DHS, our business owners care!
