Happy Holidays!!!

Wishing you a Joyous Holiday Season!!!
This holiday season joy, love, and unity were evident all throughout out city! Several organizations and residents hosted various events that made impacts in the live’s of children and families throughout DHS! Today, we celebrate a few endeavors with pride and celebrate our city!!!

(Pictured above: one of our local church’s preparing for a toy giveaway)

A group led by Donna Poyuzina and friends (that included our local UPS store, Rotary, and others) endeavored to provide Christmas toys for all in need. This process began with sign ups months ago and concluded at Miracle Springs with plenty of toys, bikes…. and SANTA!!!!! Because you never know when a family may have fallen on hard times, or just may be in need, it’s beautiful to witness a community rally together through various events to provide for our children.

Between the Desert Sun and NBC news, out local resident Fritz Collins has become quite the celebrity. Opening his home to all who desired to take a picture with Santa, he provided an atmosphere of holiday cheer for all who took part! Mr. Collins and his wife not only provided free pictures with Santa, but served up delicious hot chocolate, and provided toys for all (spinners, hot wheels, etc.) Facebook pages were flooded with pictures and excitement and many are already looking forward to next year!!!!
For the first time ever our city held the annual Holiday Parade in the evening with a light show and small amusement park. The brisk, cold Desert Hot springs air didn’t deter the city from enjoying a wonderful night on the town. You can see through the pictures that all in attendance had a an evening of fun and excitement.
We wish you a Happy Holiday season and a prosperous new year. See you all next week with a new resident spotlight! Let’s Advance DHS!!!!!! 2019 is already shaping up to be an amazing year! Additionally, we are now accepting donations! Help us continue to spread the great news about our city and assist in improving our image valley wide and beyond! We are a non profit 501c3 and all donations can be written off for tax purposes. Let’s do this…together. Contact us at theadvancedhs@gmail.com.

As previously stated, our students have returned to school. However, due to COVID protocols, they have returned to school virtually. Virtual learning has proven to be a challenge, and from the responses we have received, everyone is adjusting. I recently reached out to our District Superintindent for additional perspective: “As we begin the year in…

A Teacher’s Perspective & Beyond!

By Kephyan Sheppard | June 28, 2020

As the 2nd semester of the school year got underway, I’m sure most of our educators were beginning to set plans for the summer. Vacations, completing ‘to do’ lists, and rest were more than likely prioritized. Fast forward to March, and COVID19 became the dominant thought, causing many of them to scrap lesson plans and…

This Graduating Class is Something Special!

By Kephyan Sheppard | May 23, 2020

As we shift gears and begin to prepare for the return of some normalcy, it can’t be understated enough that for some normal may never return. For some the opportunity to take part in once-in-a-lifetime events has been taken away. Our graduation plans, especially for our high school students have unfortunately become casualties to unintended…

We are in this TOGETHER!!!

By Kephyan Sheppard | March 19, 2020

Admittedly, this edition is a few days late. Several times I began typing and several times what I typed, I deleted. A week ago, our website received anonymous note asking if I would address COVID-19 and the outpouring of fear and concern that has swept throughout our city. With the increasing numbers of those affected…

Watch Them Soar: DHS High

By Kephyan Sheppard | February 8, 2020

DHS High should be celebrated! Not only because it’s a great school, but because of the innovative approaches that Principal Cota and her staff employ daily. Over the course of the last year I have witnessed academic excellence, school pride, and exemplary professionalism from students and staff. However, I have now become aware of some…
