Classical Music in DHS!- Danny Holt

Danny Holt
Pianist
Pianist Danny Holt has been called, “phenomenal” by the late music critic Alan Rich and has performed around the globe. His most notable performance venues are amongst the best in the world. Having performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl, he has clearly established himself as a well known musician, and he is yet another jewel here in Desert Hot Springs.
The Accomplished Musician
His website (www.dannyholt.net) gives an in depth description of his impressive resume. He holds degrees from California Institute of the Arts, Hampshire College, Smith College, and Interlochen Arts Academy. In addition to being an accomplished pianist, he is also a percussionist, teacher, and scholar. He is the chair of the music program at the Academy of Creative Education at the Oakwood School and is the Scholar in Residence at the Harvard Westlake Kutler Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Independent Research. The list goes even beyond this, and it appears he is on a mission to expand his reach and influence even further.
Mr. Holt is originally from Massachusetts and has made Desert Hot Springs his home. During his initial visit 10 years ago he admitted that he was overworked and needed some downtime to recharge.
On a mission to view the desert, he stumbled across our jewel while staying at one of our resorts and, “Immediately became enchanted” with out views and desert landscaping.
He cited the, “Access to beautiful wilderness areas and peace and quiet” truly made an impact and lasting impression on him.
Classical Music in DHS!!!
And now, he is here with us, eager to use his gift and deposit into the city where he has settled. Five years ago, he launched the Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts. Equipped with his magnificent of music, he decided to find a way to make a contribution here to his community. From the inception of the concert series, he was surprised to discover that there is an audience [appreciative of classical music) here in the city. He proudly boasted that after 5 years, the concert series has, “blossomed into a permanent part of our community.”
With grants from our Community and Cultural Affairs Commission, donations from the public (even accepted at the door), and volunteers, these concerts are free to the public. In addition to volunteering his time ,he also opens his home annually for a personal concert with the purpose of fundraising.

As we shift gears and begin to prepare for the return of some normalcy, it can’t be understated enough that for some normal may never return. By Kephyan Sheppard | March 19, 2020

Admittedly, this edition is a few days late. Several times I began typing and several times what I typed, I deleted. A week ago, our website received anonymous note asking if I would address COVID-19 and the outpouring of fear and concern that has swept throughout our city. With the increasing numbers of those affected…

Watch Them Soar: DHS High

By Kephyan Sheppard | February 8, 2020

DHS High should be celebrated! Not only because it’s a great school, but because of the innovative approaches that Principal Cota and her staff employ daily. Over the course of the last year I have witnessed academic excellence, school pride, and exemplary professionalism from students and staff. However, I have now become aware of some…

Youth sports are a staple in every growing city. The notion that we must keep our youth busy year round is one that is well received nationwide. Here in DHS, our Junior All American Football and Cheer program has proven to be a successful model of consistency for our youth, but has also served as…
