“Ed and I wanted to get involved with EarlyAct originally because we have grandchildren of this age group and knew they would benefit from such a club. What started as a semi-selfish endeavor has turned into so much more. Currently we are at Bella Vista Elementary and we meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 8:45-9:15am. We have between 25-35 students at each meeting. We would like to expand to all five elementary schools in Desert Hot Springs. [However], in order to do that we are going to need more assistance from other Rotarians as well as anyone in the community that would like to be involved! (Here is a hint for all those looking for ways to serve our community).”
She continued, “We are going to have our first fundraiser in May (date TBD). The kids want a Karaoke fundraiser. We have acquired Dillon’s for a Sunday afternoon 12-4pm. A portion of the food and drink purchases will go back to our students as well as the [proceeds from] raffle prizes and ‘Happy Dollar’ money. In addition to that, the students will recieve EarlyAct T- shirts and a “Buddy Bench” for their school.” It should also be noted that because the club also kfocuses on serving beyond domestic borders, they are currently collecting eye glasses for their first international project to aid Uganda!
This is an awesome opportunity for you to get connected and serve the youth in our city. Thank you Janice, Ed, and Rotary EarlyAct for Advancing DHS!!!
