Bruce Craven, Author
“I have worked in the education field and the writing field for most of my adult life. I teach a popular graduate, business school course called “Leadership Through Fiction”. This book developed from that class. The show “Game of Thrones” is an environment where leadership can be the difference between life and death. The stakes are high. “Win or Die: Leadership Secrets from Game of Thrones” was my effort to bring together exciting epic fantasy fiction with useful ideas that can help everyone in their own leadership…and the leadership of the organizations where they work.”- Bruce Craven, author
A Man that Loves DHS
You’ve mentioned you’ve lived here for about 12 years. Why Dhs ?
” My wife and I had vacationed here a few times. I grew up in Los Angeles and visited the Palm Springs area with my family since I was a boy. I have always loved the Coachella Valley. My wife and I were married in Palm Springs. DHS offered us an opportunity to find a nice home with a stunning view in a friendly environment, in a unique, desert location, close to the cultural opportunities of the neighboring cities. “
In 12 years in what ways has the city improved ?
“The leadership of any city involves many complex decisions with a variety of constituents. The recent leadership of DHS has aimed at improving the city’s environment, recognizing that the city can’t solve all challenges without building an economic base. The Mayor makes the effort to communicate how change is happening. The leadership of our city has the courage and vision to respond to the unique economic opportunities available to DHS that will benefit everyone: both tourists and locals. I pick up a general sense of growing enthusiasm for the city in the people of DHS. In our first few years here, that was missing. I remember being in Palm Springs about ten years ago and a young clerk in a store made a negative comment about DHS. I pointed out that his comment was incorrect, nothing more than negative gossip. I made a commitment ten years ago to remind people that Desert Hot Springs is a special city. Pride in DHS is all of our responsibility. We are lucky to live here!”
Do you feel DHS is a great location for family living?
“The city has been a wonderful location for our family. We use the surrounding cities for different resources and DHS is our central location. We love the whole Coachella Valley, but DHS is home!”
Why do you love DHS ?
” DHS has a relaxed, small-town quality. It is an authentic desert city that sits on the ridge and offers blue sky and serenity. I can take my sons and my dog and walk out into a natural garden of creosote, brittle bush, quail and jack-rabbits on the ground, hawks circling above.”
(super bloom anyone?)
