DHS Women’s Club!!!

The Desert Hot Springs Women’s club is yet another astounding organization here in Desert Hot Springs. The women in this club exemplify class, grace, service, and a commitment to influence DHS!!!  According to Mrs. Van Beveran they have a mission to, “Enrich Desert Hot Springs through scholarships, friendship, community service, [and] social welfare.” enhancing the image of Desert Hot Springs Women’s Club.

Organized in 1953, the club began distributing scholarships in the early 1980’s. This year’s event awarded 5 high school seniors received $2500 (from the Women’s Club with a match by OneFuture CV), and a current UCLA student received $1000 (from the Women’s Club also matched by OneFuture CV).


I recently became aware of their scholarship program and was able to attend their banquet for a few minutes. The night was truly a beautiful atmosphere constructed in the Joshua Room at Miracle Springs Resort and the room was occupied with numerous attendees as well as scholarship recipients. 

The selection process for scholarship recipients is both meticulous and thorough. A quick review of the application and you’ll notice that scholars are asked to provide things such as their cumulative GPA, SAT (Suite of Assessment Test) scores, a list of extracurricular activities (i.e. sports, clubs, etc.), and work schedule if applicable. Additionally, things such as desired program of study, family dynamics, and penmanship (on the application), amongst other things are considered. Van Beveran added, “We [also] look beyond the criteria. [We consider] how the students interact with us during the interview, [their ability to] answer questions, [their] financial need, and their involvement in school activities and [involvement] the community.  


Why do I love DHS:  “It is a close-knit small city where we help each other when needed.  In fact, I am more involved in Desert Hot Springs living here only 12 years than I was living in the small city where I grew up.  I feel like I belong here and want to help anyway I can to the betterment of our city.”

Desire to get involved? The club is open to all DHS women and meets monthly on the first Tuesday of the month, October through May at Vista Montana – lunch begins at noon!!!
