Resident Spotlight Gabriel Franco

“I love DHS because I live here this is my home. There are a lot of wonderful people doing all kinds of things in love to serve our community daily, it’s amazing! I see it everywhere I go …”

Desert Hot Springs is a city full of diversity! I challenge you to find another city in the valley that rivals our diversity. As previously noted, our city has an abundance of benevolent hearts that not only give of their substance, but of their time as well. This week, I want to spotlight one of those people, Ms. Gabriela Franco. Gabriela can be seen throughout DHS lending her hands and heart wherever she can. From Chaplain services, to being involved in her church, to feeding the homeless and beyond, Gabriela truly represents the compassion tat resides in our community.

One of favorite ways to help my community is being available as a Chaplain. I am always ready to share the gospel and bring comfort to those in need. in addition to praying with people of our community, she aims to serve in other ways as well. She continued, “I like feeding the hungry” and supporting my local “music club” of my church (a program that teaches music theory and fundamentals to many youth).

Her service goes even further as she is one who always ensures that our local Police Department and staff are always appreciated. She added, “One of my favorite ways (of serving) is feeding our officers that deserve love andkindness as they risk their lives for us every day.”

Not only does she believe that DHS is where her faith has planted her, she believes that we all play an integral part in our city’s growth. “I believe that as we root ourselves in our city our bond grows…” In addition to being a homeowner here, she firmly believes in shopping locally and being actively involved in community service. She concluded. “Loving my city is inevitable.. just like we love our own homes where we dwell , eat , laugh , cry and pray … “

Thank you Gabriela for Advancing DHS!!!

By Kephyan Sheppard | May 23, 2020

As we shift gears and begin to prepare for the return of some normalcy, it can’t be understated enough that for some normal may never return. For some the opportunity to take part in once-in-a-lifetime events has been taken away. Our graduation plans, especially for our high school students have unfortunately become casualties to unintended…

Admittedly, this edition is a few days late. Several times I began typing and several times what I typed, I deleted. A week ago, our website received anonymous note asking if I would address COVID-19 and the outpouring of fear and concern that has swept throughout our city. With the increasing numbers of those affected…

By Kephyan Sheppard | February 8, 2020

DHS High should be celebrated! Not only because it’s a great school, but because of the innovative approaches that Principal Cota and her staff employ daily. Over the course of the last year I have witnessed academic excellence, school pride, and exemplary professionalism from students and staff. However, I have now become aware of some…

Imagine a program that aims to help young girls achieve all they can in life, one that meets them right where they are and is committed to ‘rescuing their potential’. Youth sports are a staple in every growing city. The notion that we must keep our youth busy year round is one that is well received nationwide. Here in DHS, our Junior All American Football and Cheer program has proven to be a successful model of consistency for our youth, but has also served as…
