Mr. Randa – A Teacher Spotlight

I have been involved with Palm Springs Unified School District for over 5 years and I have seen firsthand that Desert Hot Springs has some of the finest teachers district wide. Mr. Doug Randa brings energy and passion to his students at Bella Vista Elementary school every day. Watching him around campus and even on the playground, you get a sense that not only do the students respect his presence, but they value his zeal. Additionally, his colleagues on campus admire his professionalism and his innovative mind. This week’s spotlight: Mr. Doug Randa.

He has been in the education field for 5 years total, and just finished his 3rd year at Bella Vista as a 1st grade teacher. He boasts about the environment that Bella Vista provides, “Bella Vista has everything a teacher could ask for in a school. We have an outstanding team of teachers, an excellent administrative team, and a support staff around the school that all work together to support all of our students.” As a parent, one thing I appreciate when it comes to student environments is consistency. Randa added, “I love knowing that when I step into the building, I am among a very special group of people who truly care about every student reaching their fullest potential.”

As previously noted, he appears to be an innovator in the classroom! “I believe in meeting students at their level and providing as much of an individualized educational experience as possible in the classroom. Every student will learn differently and will have their individual strengths to contribute to the classroom and to their peers. As a first-grade teacher I strive to help every student make personal growth in all academic areas each year while also gaining confidence in being themselves and being proud of their individual strengths.”

Finally, I asked him what made DHS so special? “What I find special about DHS is the support the community has for all of our schools and students. Many local businesses and business owners frequently support and host events that benefit the children and provide safe and fun activities to participate in. When a community comes together for the benefit of the children it will always have a special place in my heart! I love DHS for that reason!”

Everyone, THIS IS DHS!!!! Thank you for doing your part to Advance DHS Mr. Randa!

As previously stated, our students have returned to school. However, due to COVID protocols, they have returned to school virtually. A Teacher’s Perspective & Beyond!

By Kephyan Sheppard | June 28, 2020

As the 2nd semester of the school year got underway, I’m sure most of our educators were beginning to set plans for the summer. Vacations, completing ‘to do’ lists, and rest were more than likely prioritized. Fast forward to March, and COVID19 became the dominant thought, causing many of them to scrap lesson plans and…

This Graduating Class is Something Special!

By Kephyan Sheppard | May 23, 2020

As we shift gears and begin to prepare for the return of some normalcy, it can’t be understated enough that for some normal may never return. For some the opportunity to take part in once-in-a-lifetime events has been taken away. Our graduation plans, especially for our high school students have unfortunately become casualties to unintended…

Admittedly, this edition is a few days late. Several times I began typing and several times what I typed, I deleted.
