I CHOSE DHS!!!

New feature! As we grow, we are beginning to find better ways to advance DHS with you. Our newest endeavor is to introduce to you a new segment entitled, “I Chose DHS!” It’s no secret that our city is comprised of thousands who love our diverse community. However, I have discovered that although we have the love for our city in common, many of us fell in love with DHS for different reasons. This week I caught up with Don and Marybeth Pritchett, native ‘east coasters’ who stumbled across our gem of a city and have chosen to settle here!

The Pritchett’s

Marybeth: “I’m originally from Long Island, NY and more recently lived in Ocean Grove, NJ for 23 years. In the ten years we vacationed in this area, the desert has always spoken to me. We chose to live in DHS because of friendships we have made here in our years of visiting.”

Don: “I was an east coast guy all my life, and settled in Ocean Grove, NJ in 1994, where I met Marybeth. In the years leading up to and following retirement, we considered many places for relocation, but were never able to agree on one. Our choice to move to DHS was mutual, as we saw opportunity and growth here. I have never felt my surroundings as much a part of my life as I now do in the mountains and desert. Having made friendships here in our many visits, our 3000 mile move was not at all intimidating, and DHS has proven to be an extremely welcoming community.”

What do you see in the future for DHS?

“We see the future of DHS as a closely knit community, becoming more vibrant and successful as more and more of us reach out to one another and become involved in facing our challenges and celebrating our successes.”

As we shift gears and begin to prepare for the return of some normalcy, it can’t be understated enough that for some normal may never return. For some the opportunity to take part in once-in-a-lifetime events has been taken away. Our graduation plans, especially for our high school students have unfortunately become casualties to unintended…

Admittedly, this edition is a few days late. Several times I began typing and several times what I typed, I deleted. A week ago, our website received anonymous note asking if I would address COVID-19 and the outpouring of fear and concern that has swept throughout our city. With the increasing numbers of those affected…

Watch Them Soar: DHS High

By Kephyan Sheppard | February 8, 2020

DHS High should be celebrated! Not only because it’s a great school, but because of the innovative approaches that Principal Cota and her staff employ daily. Over the course of the last year I have witnessed academic excellence, school pride, and exemplary professionalism from students and staff. However, I have now become aware of some…
