The City of Champions! #dhsstandUP!

Many may not realize but with an estimated 449 million followers worldwide, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is often referred to as the world’s fastest growing sport. Founded in 2012 ,the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and the World MMA Association (WMMAA) merged together to  bring a governing body to the sport and quickly formed into one of the most recognized organizations in the Mixed Martial Arts community worldwide. Why is this important? I’m glad you asked! This weekend two of Desert Hot Springs very own; Andrea Frisque and Shaniyah Carlson are both competing for IMMAF world youth championships in Rome Italy! That’s right #dhsstandUP because two of our own are amongst those representing team USA and competing on the world stage.

Team USA representing at the IMMAF World Championships this weekend in Rome!

(Pictured above: Carlson and Frisque, then Frisque with sensei Eddie Bates)

The dynamic duo train right here in town at Kihon MMA (12580 Palm Drive), led by one of our homegrown heroes Eddie Bates. Talk about community support? The city has rallied behind our champs!!! All over social media and even in causal conversation around the local gyms, you can sense the pride in the air. As one poster commented on facebook.. these two are, “putting DHS on the map!”

Next week, be sure to stop by Kihon and meet Sensei Eddie, congratulate OUR champs, and ADVANCE DHS!!!!! Have a child that may be interested? Check out this FREE event! Let’s bring home the gold!!!
