A 4 Time Emmy Award Winner Calls DHS Home!

Ask anyone in Hollywood and they will tell you that the Emmy Award is an award of prestige. An Emmy Award (Emmy), is an award that acknowledges excellence in the television industry. This award is coveted by many, and bestowed upon few. Now I know you may be asking the question, “What in the world does an Emmy Award have to do with Desert Hot Springs?” I’m glad you asked! His name is Marco Gonzàlez, 4 time Emmy award winner and DHS resident! It was an honor to interview him, and I am so thrilled to introduce him to some of you and present him to others.

An Emmy award, wow! How does it feel?

“This is my fourth Emmy Award. It is a great satisfaction that your work is recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. This is my fourth Emmy Award and the first from, Environmental category for the series “Salvando a la Vaquita Marina”. In January 2018 I went to the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico to witness the work of the environmental organization Sea Sheperd to save the Vaquita, an endangered species that lives only in the coast of San Felipe, at present approximately 20 vaquitas marinas remain before going extinct. I had the opportunity to be on John Paul Dejoria vessel where I met people from all over the world who wants to save the Vaquita Marina. This investigative report was aired the 28th of February in Univision News with great acceptance from the public.”

“[Then] Back in 2011, I won my first, 2 Emmy Awards for an Investigative Report and Photography for the series “Pepenadores de Marihuana” in where we discovered and witnessed how homeless people used to get marijuana from trash cans of cannabis dispensaries in San Diego at nighttime. The following year, 2012, I won an Emmy award in the category of Health and Science for the series “A Que No Sabias.'”

Why did you choose DHS?

I have lived in Desert Hot Springs since 2014. I saw in this city a place of plenty of opportunities and ways for me to participate with my community to help grow and be engaged in positive new changes that will benefit [a city] with diverse cultures. [I enjoy the opportunity] to get involved and participate with our neighbors to bring positive and new ways to make our city better.

Marco, thank you for Advancing DHS. Everyone knows that I refer to our city as a ‘City of Champions, but it’s time to let the world know that a 4 time Emmy award winner CHOSE DHS!!!
