Bruce Montgomery:DHS Hero

Pastor, volunteer, philanthropist, lover of people…. Bruce Montgomery is a Desert Hot Springs Hero. Many of us have seen him and his camera at events throughout the city, and have followed his amazing eye as some of his snapshots have been posted on various social media accounts. The quiet and sometimes unassuming, soft spoken man has quite the story and has made a large impact all across our beloved city. This month, he is retiring as a Senior Pastor and I was able to catch up with him to discuss his journey, and his love for DHS.

“I began preaching as a Bible School freshman in Kansas and Missouri in 1966, and have served as pastor in churches in Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota and CALIFORNIA. I accepted the call as Senior Pastor in spring of 2001 and have been here 18 1/2 years. [I have] earned degrees that include a Bachelor of Theology from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, a Master of Divinity from Talbot Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Denver Seminary.

“Additionally, for 6 years I served on the board of Family Resource Center, as a community photographer that chronicled people and events of DHS (including being staff photographer for a number of years with Valley Breeze and Desert Star). I am an active Chamber of Commerce member (Connie and I were honored to be named Citizens of the Year in 2010), have hosted and helped coordinate the Christmas Store for seven years, and helped coordinate Easter Sunrise Services.”

Wow! He also noted that we was a Rotarian for many years and Former Rotarian of many years and an active member and officer in the DHS Ministerial Fellowship for the last 18 years.

His journey began in DHS nearly 20 years ago…

“Even though I am retiring as Senior Pastor at Grace November 1, we plan to remain in the community …it has become home, and [there is] no where [else] we would rather live. Great place to retire, not just for weather but because of the people. There is an openness and friendliness to all by most of the residents here. We love the variety of cultures, languages and ages that blended together make this a unique and delightful place to live.”

DHS is extremely fortunate to have you! Thank you for Advancing DHS!!!

It should be noted that there will be a retirement celebration for Mr. Montgomery, if you are interested in attending, please email me for details!
