Donna Lee: A Gift to our City!

Donna Lee, affectionately known as simply Donna in our community has been a vibrant voice in support of all that is good with Desert Hot Springs. From starting the Desert Hot Springs Neighborhood Group on Facebook which now boasts over 11,000 members and leading community breakfasts to seemingly being in multiple places at one time, she it is truly a Desert Hot Springs hero.

Warrior, overcomer, lover of life and art, traveler, and survivor… these are a few words to describe our very own Donna Lee. Her resiliency has brought her through trials that many would not have survived. However, not only has she survived, but she has thrived… with a smile! In spite of all that she has had to overcome, she has continued to remain loving and optimistic. Her energetic optimism is often contagious to all who come in contact with her and her story is engulfed with passion and purpose. Donna has been an absolute gift to our city, and she is preparing to relocate to began a new chapter in her life. This move will enable her to be closer to her children and grandchildren, the loves of her life. The purpose of this week’s story is twofold: to tell her story concerning her love for our city, and to highlight her heroic heart and abounding love for us all.

A fun shot from the ‘Desert Hot Springs Neighborhood Group’

She revealed that like Moses, she was brought into what she believed was the wilderness (Desert Hot Springs) to find healing from grief following the untimely the death of her son. Like many of us, she soon became enamored with the hiking trails and as she put it, the rest of God’s beautiful creations. She then began taking pictures and while reviewing them she realized that, “People didn’t see the same beauty that I saw, so I [endeavored] to show them, and they would ask… where is that?” From that point, through the lens of her camera, Donna showed many throughout the Valley and beyond the splendor of our city.

She’s always around town with a camera in hand!!!

I asked her to leave us with a statement as she prepares to embark on the next phase of her storied adventure in life and she replied, “Keep doing what you [all] are doing! We are now going into a wonderful new journey here, and we are awake now. We care, we support, we love! I say our city in on the right track, just keep moving… you are looking great, I will miss all! Donna, on behalf of all of us who you have impacted (and those that enjoy some of the things in the city and haven’t a clue about your contribution)… THANK YOU FOR ADVANCING DHS!!!
